After much experimentation Donald perfected the use of clay-coated paper which frees him from some of the limitations in watercolour medium. He is listed in the Directory of British Marine Artists and was regarded as one of the most inventive and original painters of his time.

Norman James Battershill was born in London on 23rd April 1922.  He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Society of Painters in Oil, New English Art Club and the Pastel Society. In addition to these he had numerous one man show and is represented in many collections in the UK. He died in Marnhull, Dorset in 2010.

Charles Cundall studied art at Manchester School of Art and obtained a scholarship to the RCA and attended the RCA and the Slade School between 1919 and 1920 and in Paris.  He travelled in Spain, France, Italy, Sweden and Russia, lived in Chelsea, exhibited at the RA from 1918 held his first one man show at Colnaghi’s in 1927.This work was painted when he was an ARA which dates it between 1937 and 1944 as his appointment to ARA was in 1937 and to Royal Academician in 1944.

Max Hofler studied art at St Martin's School of Art but had to take up architecture in order to make a living up to the outbreak of the Second World War. After qualifying at the Royal Academy Schools he became a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Max held his first one-man exhibition in Amersham in the 1930's. He was a member of the Wapping Group of Artists.

Landscape painter in oils who was born in Reigate. Ninnes studied at the Slade School of Fine Art 1927-30 under Henry Tonks and Phillip Wilson Steer and in Paris. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painter in Oil, New English Art Club, Royal West of England Academy and the Paris Salon. He was a member of the St Ives Society of Artists and lived in St Ives.

Mary Remington was a painter of landscapes, coastal scenes, still-life and portraits in oils. She was born in Reigate (nee Beard) and educated privately, she studied at Redhill School of Art under William Todd-Brown. She was awarded a scholarship at the Royal College of Art under Sir William Rothenstein and later at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. She exhibited at the RA from 1939 to 1978 and at the Royal Society of Marine Artists, the ROI and the RBA. She was elected member of the NEAC in 1954 and ROI in 1962.

Internationally collected artist E. J. Paprocki was born in Chicago, IL in 1971. An avid painter since childhood, he studied Business and Fine Art at Loyola University in Chicago. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Paprocki augmented his formal art studies with extensive travels in Europe, painting and visiting the great museums. Exhibited widely, he has been featured in 18 one-man exhibitions and many prestigious group shows on two continents. His work has received critical acclaim and has been featured in several national magazines including Art of the West, Southwest Art, Gulfshore Life, and International Artist. Paprocki’s works have graced the walls of The White House, the U.S. Embassies in Kuwait and Uruguay and many large corporations. In 2013, The University of Notre Dame commissioned the artist to create four monumental murals for their permanent collection. His paintings hang in more than 1000 public, private and corporate collections in over a dozen countries around the world. This picture belonged to Victor Mishcon QC who represented Lady Diana at her divorce from Prince Charles. 

Michael Reynolds 1933 - 2007

Michael Reynolds was born 30th August 1933 and studied at Varndean and Brighton College of Art where he  won the Rome Scholarship in engraving.  He lived in the Netherlands. His work is in the Queen's Collection at Windsor Castle and the National Portrait Gallery. The Dead City shows an area of Cairo consisting of mausoleums and tombs which are inhabited by thousands of homeless families. This picture won 2nd Prize at the Singer and Friendlander in 1994 when he was featurered in an article by Frank Whitford in the Sunday Times 11th September 1994.

William Stewart was a painter in watercolour of marines, usually fishing boats. He is also known to paint Venetian Lagoons. His work is often taken for Frederick Aldridge who may have been his teacher. He is thought to also paint under the names of J Hill and F Garyson

Cecil King was a painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes and marines. He was born 6th August 1881 and educated at Haileybury. He studied engineering but later turned to art. He studied at Goldsmiths’ Institute College School of Art, Westminster School of Art and in Paris where he studied under Laurens and Steinlen at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Cecil King exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Paris Salon, Venice and the principal London and provincial galleries.

He worked in Hampstead and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1869. He exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham; Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; Walker Gallery Liverpool; Manchester City Art Gallery; New Galley; Royal Society of British Artists; Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers;Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour; Royal Miniature Society and Royal Institute of Oil Painters.  He was elected RE in 1881.
